Philharmonia: Japan tour with Santtu-Matias Rouvali
Multiple venues
Sunday 19 January 2025, 3pm - Sunday 26 January 2025, 2pm

The Philharmonia returns to Japan for the first time since 2015. Our Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali is joined by two spectacular Japanese musicians, pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii and violinist Fumiaki Miura, for seven concerts across the country.

Starting in Fukuoka, then spending a week in Tokyo, Yokohama and Kawasaki, before spending a weekend in Osaka and Nagoya, the Philharmonia performs masterpieces of the classical music canon.

Nobuyuki Tsujii (know as “Nobu” by his loyal fans) has been blind from birth and relies on intense, incredibly detailed listening to learn and perform. He performs two beloved works of the piano repertoires: concertos by Grieg and Tchaikovsky.

Violinist Fumiaki Miura first rose to fame when he became the youngest ever winner of the Joseph Joachim Hannover International Violin Competition in 2009. On this tour, he shows off his dazzling virtuosity in Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy and Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto.
