One directs the Bayreuth Festival,
Kirill Petrenko of the Bavarian State Opera music director.
Another person was a guest conductor for the NHK Symphony Orchestra,
It is Vasily Petrenko, principal director of the Oslo Philharmonic and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic!
Vasily Petrenko, I remember well of the Shostakovich No. 5 at the time of his visit to Japan with the Oslo Philharmonic in 2013, the playing was somber and exotic.
However, today's performance of all-Russian professional program left a vivid image!
Stravinsky was played first and last.
The direction for the first was calm with increasing force. The orchestra reacting to him really well, a rapport apparently well established between conductor and the orchestra, which seems to react immediately to the conducting.
Although there are places reminiscent of Urubansuki, the command of the first piece was calm ... He applied ritardando with exquisite timing, and he shows much skill in controlling the volume, but "Kashichei King" of fire of birds and, and enthusiastic in the "sacrifice of dance" of Harusai Part 2 production is quite skillful.
First half second work was a piano concerto by Nobuyuki Tsujii. Because tickets are sold out whenever Mr. Nobu appears, I see that his popularity is indeed amazing. Also sold out is a concert tomorrow, the second half is No. 10 of Shostakovich.
Nobuyuki Tsujii's playing was too flat when I previously listened to his Chopin in Tokyo, feeling a little uncomfortable. Today, the Prokofiev was not bad. [Editorial: this is typical "kura-ota" speak about Nobu. Kura-ota's are (snobbish) classical music nerds.]
The beginning immediatly engaged the orchestra. I think it was a very mellow sound of the piano, rather than the performance of the hard touch, such as sound of the bass and pounding; it was a performance that launched the lyrical aspect of this song at the top. Especially the second movement was very good.
Encores Rachmaninoff.
Prelude, the sound was very beautiful but to me it somehow did not plumb the depth.
The second song is the famous 18th Variation of Paganini Rhapsody, arraged by himself. This felt cheap and monotonous when played without an orchestra.
The U.K. Liverpool orchestra has a sound that seems moderate to me, but the string instrument section is particular good, although the woodwind is somewhat weak. But oboe solo is good.
Grateful for Encores. The first two songs were unfamiliar to my ear. But the third song whopping in classic staple, Hungarian Dances No. 1 ... [Editorial: This sentence betrays the blogger's expertise - even ignorant me would recognize the first orchestra encore, Elger's Morning Song.]

Liverpool Phil's Japan tour continues with rousing reception at Suntory Hall
THE RLPO’s tour of Japan has continued with a storming reception from Tokyo classical music fans – including three ovations.
The Phil played the first of two concerts at the Japanese capital’s famous Suntory Hall today.
The 10-night, eight-date tour has also included concerts in Saitama, Osaka, Yokohama, with performances to come in Tokyo, Nagoya and Fukuoka before the 100-strong orchestra returns to Liverpool this weekend.
They are touring with blind Japanese superstar pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii.
Speaking to the ECHO ahead of the tour, the young performer, said: “The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic a fantastic orchestra, so I’m sure they’ll be very warmly received by a Japanese audience, and this being their first visit to Japan I personally want the musicians to enjoy Japan.
“Right from the first rehearsal I felt that they were a very responsive orchestra, with lots of energy.”

Nobu Tsujii is treated like a pop star at home in Japan and has an annual television programme dedicated to him.
The latest show, broadcast earlier this month, included a segment filmed in Liverpool when he played with the RLPO at the Philharmonic Hall last autumn, giving Japanese audiences an early view of the orchestra.
This is the first time the RLPO has ever toured Japan, currently the world’s leading market for classical music, and it has received a rousing response from packed concert halls.
The tour is part of the Phil’s celebrations for it’s 175th anniversary – making it the oldest continuous professional symphony orchestra in the UK.
