Nobuyuki Tsujii performed at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on August 16 2022, his debut at that epic venue (seats 17,000). The weather was perfect that evening, the stars lined up, and Nobu was in top form (after weeks performing in Europe & UK).
The long-awaited concert report has now been posted on the Nobuyuki Tsujii official website, with many fine photos. I am especially heartened that Nobu pays tribute to the late Mo. Bramwell Tovey.
The original report, in Japanese, can be read here: https://avex.jp/tsujii/photo/detail.php?photo_group_id=1000610.

August 16, 2022
Los Angeles, USA
Leaving Europe behind, we headed to a performance in Los Angeles on the west coast of the United States. Performances in the United States were also greatly affected by Corona. Under such circumstances, I was able to visit for the first time in almost three years since 2019.
After flying for 12 hours from Europe, we waited in a long immigration line! We stood in line for over 2 hours. It made me realize that we are back in a world where many people can freely travel again.
This concert was performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the world-famous Hollywood Bowl. Originally, I was scheduled to perform with conductor Bramwell Tovey, who had performed with me in Sydney in 2017, but unfortunately he passed away suddenly in July, and instead I performed Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 under the direction of Mr. Louis Langrée [see photo below].
The venue, the Hollywood Bowl, is huge! There are more than 17,000 seats. I climbed the stairs to listen to the rehearsal from the audience seats high up, to experience the spaciousness and sound for more than half an hour. Since the sound of the performance flows through the speakers, you can hear the details clearly even if you are listening from behind. The engineer who was in charge that day had a career that won him a Grammy Award, and the sound coming out of the speakers sounded very natural, but also as clear as if you were listening to a CD. The sun was just setting behind the mountains and the temperature had dropped a little, and I was able to enjoy the rehearsal while listening to the chirping of birds in a pleasant breeze.
On the day of the concert, we had many visitors [concert-goers]. Before the performance started, everyone was eating and drinking in their seats, and everyone was relaxed. The applause and cheers at the end of the performance were so powerful that I was very happy. As encores, Liszt's "La Campanella" and Kapustin's 8 concert etudes No. 1 "Prelude" were performed.
America has a different atmosphere than Europe, but Los Angeles is a big city, and I sensed that there were many people and cars going through the city, with various sounds and people's voices. In front of the signboard at the entrance of the Hollywood Bowl, I took a commemorative photo with the driver who took care of me this time [see photo below]. Anyway, I received a lot of power from bright and positive people! I hope to come back to this lively city again soon.
Mr. Tovey, who was scheduled to perform with me, invited me to various concerts, including this concert. I am full of gratitude to Mr. Tovey, who always cared about me.
I pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. Bramwell Tovey.

There are 6 fine photos.

Image below: Nobu -- with a broad smile -- and the lady driver (in face mask) that he mentions in the report. They seem happy together.
Kudos to Nobu and his staff for posting the report!
